Buterin shared new details on X about how Ethereum could handle significantly more transactions. The main idea is to separate the individual steps of a transaction more clearly, reducing the amount of repeated computation across the network.

He distinguishes between “actions” — the effects a transaction has on the blockchain — and “dependencies,” or the conditions required for execution. According to Buterin, dependencies offer substantial room for more efficient processing because validators would need to repeat far fewer calculations.

EIP-8141 could support lower gas fees

Buterin believes the approach has considerable potential. More than 90% of Ethereum activity does not require the full flexibility for which the network was originally designed. Simpler operations could therefore be processed differently and assigned lower gas costs.

EIP-8141 is intended to provide a foundation for the new transaction format. The proposal remains a draft, builds on ongoing account-abstraction work and could prepare Ethereum for further scaling upgrades. It is not yet an activated network upgrade.
